Why an online tailored training?

Online tailored training can be a great resource for busy teams that find it challenging to get the time to attend face-to-face training. An online training can be staggered over a number of weeks, with the amount of time dedicated to learning selected to suit a team. It's a flexible option that allows groups to learn at their own pace. Learning groups can be based in the same place, or even across different countries. Online training is an efficient, flexible, and cost-effective way to train a team. The JAIF Management Team (JMT) within the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta, chose this approach to train selected staff in Knowledge Management.

Why is Knowledge Management important?

Knowledge Management encompasses the systems, practices, and mindset necessary to help individuals create, collect, organize, refine, distribute, and reuse knowledge to drive collaboration and innovation within an organisation. It ensures that valuable insights and expertise are accessible to the right people at the right time, presented in meaningful and practical ways.

Purpose of the training and delivery method

IMA and the JMT focal point talked through the different options available in an online training, and decided on a mix of self-paced learning, supported by videos, downloadable reading materials, interactive exercises for individuals, and as a group. This was complemented by 12 facilitated guided webinars to consolidate learning and receive further support. The JMT staff attending the training are based in the same office location and sat together during webinars to brainstorm and share ideas for developing a KM strategy that is suited to their organisation and working context.

Final thoughts and future directions

KM can help an organisation work more efficiently and effectively. An online training for a team is a perfect way to find time to share ideas and strategies together and develop next steps and actions. By collaborating in this way, innovative ideas can emerge - as the saying goes ' go faster alone but go further together!'. We would like to thank the JMT team for their enthusiasm, their willingness to share ideas and perspectives, and the fun they bought to the online training environment!
