Richard is a Rural Development Consultant, Chartered Environmentalist and former honorary Research Fellow at the Institute for Development Policy and Management of the University of Manchester. He has experience of long-term projects in both Africa and Asia, university-based research and teaching, as well as short-term consultancy assignments. He has published in journals and books on process approaches, integrated appraisal and livelihoods impact assessment. Provided intellectual leadership in a large livelihoods project and been active in several other livelihoods projects. Operationalised integrated process approaches at project and regional level, led review missions and developed Livelihood-based monitoring and impact assessment systems as well as Real-Time Results-Based M&E systems.
